Hozenji Asakusa is a traditional Japanese kaiseki restaurant in Hozenji Yokocho, founded in 1936 (Showa 11). Every seat is in a fully private room, and the kitchen specialises in three iconic ingredients: fugu (pufferfish), hamo (conger eel) and suppon (soft-shelled turtle). A Kyoto-trained chef prepares seasonal kaiseki courses that express the four seasons through Osaka-sourced ingredients. The fugu courses use carefully selected two-kilogram fish from Kyushu, served as tessa sashimi and techiri hotpot with generous portions. The hamo is sourced from Awaji and Tokushima, with skilled bone-cutting techniques producing delicate, melt-in-the-mouth texture. Suppon courses feature the restaurant's prized golden broth, a rich dashi built over years of expertise. With 28 seats across table and tatami private rooms, including a room with a view of the Mizukake Fudo statue, Asakusa is suited to entertaining guests, family celebrations and special occasions. Its decades of tradition and refined service make it one of Hozenji Yokocho's most respected addresses.
