Seisho Calligraphy なんば

Seisho Calligraphy (青霄書法会) is a Japanese calligraphy school led by master calligrapher Baikei, with its main branch located on the 6th floor of the Toa Building in Namba, just steps from Namba Station's 18th exit. Founded over 20 years ago, the school teaches the art of shodo - Japanese brush calligraphy - to students of all backgrounds, from complete beginners to those aspiring to professional calligraphy careers. The school is unique among Japanese calligraphy institutions for its strong focus on international students, offering both one-day experience courses and a one-year Culture Visa sponsorship programme for serious overseas students wishing to study in Japan. The Namba school offers classes in classical Chinese-character calligraphy (kanji), Japanese hiragana calligraphy (kana), seal carving (tenkoku) and original creative work, with each session lasting approximately 2.5 hours. Lessons are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with monthly fees starting from 5,500 yen per session for basic calligraphy courses. The school is affiliated with the Dokuritsu Shojin-dan, an independent calligraphy organisation, and students can work toward certification and exhibition opportunities.
